Have you heard the phrase ‘Sales Funnel’ lately? Are you questioning whether you need one for your business?
Sales Funnels are certainly not something new, but it does feels like the phrase has experienced a new lease of life!! It’s similar to a Sales Pipeline but is more to do with the activity around creating a pipeline.
A sales funnel is designed to capture potential customers or leads and send them directly down into doing the desired action. To understand this better, let’s look at the different stages of a sales funnel.

The Stages of a Sales Funnel
The model of a sales funnel can vary from one business to another. Some models may involve several stages while others with three core phases (top, middle, and bottom). However, what is common amongst all these models is that they all function in the same way.
1.    Create Awareness – The first stage is generally about creating awareness about your product or service, or your business in general. Awareness is what enables potential leads to noticing your business, and when they do, it is time to build some interest.
2.    Growing Database – Interested leads will slowly trickle down the funnel and into your database. It’s important to capture these leads directly and keep them interested.
3.    Introductions – The third phase is allowing your audience to become acquainted with your product or service. Use this time to demonstrate what makes your products and services better than competitors and how you can help them.
4.    Action – The final stage of the process is to present your offer by directing them towards the action they need to take, and then closing the sale.

Managing Your Sales Funnel
When we set it out as above it seems easy, but getting leads to become customers can be challenging.  You will see large drop offs from the sales funnel the higher up the process. Prospects suddenly disappear or unsubscribe, and you may be left wondering why.
There will always be an element of drop offs, the important thing is to ensure that whatever you are promising, you are delivering on. For instance, if people are signing up to learn about Facebook, then teach them about Facebook!  That being said, the success rate of your business depends on your sales funnel so examine results and determine which stage leads depart. Doing that will help identify roadblocks that may be hindering the smooth flow of leads to sales.

Your Content Matters
If you are creating a sales funnel, then your website and email marketing will play a huge part, and the content of each will be vital. Ensure you use the right content, tone and language to engage with your clients and customers.
To create an attractive and compelling content, you need first to understand what drives your leads to your business. Ask yourself what are their pain points and what is it about my business that can help them overcome this. Once you understand your target market and get your messaging right, the rest should simply fall into place!
